THE VESSEL

The tekoteko stands firm, a figure of protection and remembrance. It echoes the ancestors who stand watch over the people. As they guard the wharenui, this guardian stands watch over the spirit it holds.

Each vessel is shaped using local clay. A symbol of respect for history, and of protection for the future; both collectible and sustainable.

Tekoteko, he kaitiaki i te wairua; guardian of all that lies within.

THE WATER

Drawn from a deep aquifer beneath the Central Plateau, fed by the living volcanoes Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe, this pristine water carries a unique minerality which is the fingerprint of the land itself.

Mānuka Honey

Mānuka honey is the foundation of the liqueur and its defining ingredient. It brings a rich, silky sweetness layered with subtle floral notes and a gentle smokiness unique to Aotearoa. On the palate it gives depth, warmth, and roundness, softening the edges of the native botanicals. Symbolically, mānuka represents healing, protection, and the strength of the land.

Kawakawa Fruit

Kawakawa fruit brings spice, warmth, and a gentle heat that lingers on the finish. The nose is peppery and clove-like with hints of fruit, while the palate delivers a herbal warmth that balances the honey’s sweetness. Kawakawa is a revered plant in Māori tradition, symbolising life force, cleansing, and renewal. In the liqueur it ensures vibrancy and length, making the finish memorable and uniquely New Zealand.

Gisborne Orange

Dehydrated and macerated orange provides brightness and contrast to the richness of the honey. On the nose it delivers zesty citrus oils, while the palate reveals sweet-bitter marmalade tones that refresh and lift the overall blend. Orange symbolises balance and vitality, grounding it in New Zealand’s orchard heritage.

Tītoki

The tītoki leaf connects the modern recipe back to the original liqueur created in West Auckland. It carries a resinous, green aroma with a lightly herbal edge, and on the palate it provides earthy depth and a soft, grounding bitterness. In the story of the liqueur, tītoki represents the ngahere (native forest) and the guardianship of Tāne Mahuta, anchoring the drink in its cultural and botanical origins.
